ROYAL  AUSTRALIAN  AIR  FORCE    |   1982 – 2003

 

At the age of 18 in 1982, I joined the Royal Australian Air Force and underwent recruit training an No 1 RTU in Adelaide, before relocating to Wagga Wagga in NSW to complete my technical training. I served on Lockheed P3 Orion maritime patrol, Macchi MB326H Jet Trainers and Hawker Siddley HS748 Light Transport and Navigation training aircraft. At the rank of Sergeant, I was recommended for commissioning as an Air Force Officer. I graduated top of my class at the Royal Australian College receiving the Officer Qualities award and worked as an Aeronautical Engineer at the RAAF Purchasing Support agency, Officers Training School and No 1 Squadron, before discharging from the Air Force in December 2003.

During my 22 year Air Force career, I served on every base in Australia and also overseas in Asia, New Zealand, United States of America, Canada and the United Kingdom.

I received numerous medals, honours and awards for my service and leadership, including:

  • Australian Service Medal – South East Asia Clasp
  • Defence Force Service Medal – First Clasp
  • Australian Defence Medal
  • Air Commander Australia Commendation
  • Officer Commanding RAAF East Sale Commendation
  • Officers’ Training School Officer Qualities Award
